Batteries have electricity inside them!

By: Aadyaa Keyal - Researcher

We've all used batteries before. From childhood toys, to remotes of gadgets and even our watches, batteries are used regularly. Have you wondered how a battery actually works?Contrary to the popular belief, batteries don't exactly have electricity inside them. We shall bust this myth!

What's inside a battery?

A battery contains a chemical liquid called an electrolyte, which is similar to soup. When a battery is inserted into a device, the electrolyte transforms into ions and electrons. The electrons are then discharged from the positive electrode.

How do batteries work?

Batteries store chemical energy, which is converted into electrical energy when the battery is used. The flow of electrons from one electrode to another through an external circuit creates an electric current.
